Artist's Statement
"I have done some form of handwork since childhood, when I used to knit at my third grade desk when my work was done. I discovered beads later on in my life but had difficulty finding information on how to use them. I am primarily self taught from books, trial and error, and the occasional class. I collect all kinds of beads and enjoy the challenge of finding some way to use them that is my very own.
Handweaving creates a bead fabric that is rich in texture and color. I am drawn to very small beads that have one facet (called charlottes or true cuts) which lends an extra bit of sparkle to my pieces. The beadwork is created one bead at a time, therefore each piece is very time consuming. Lately, many of my pieces combine a metal clay element with beadweaving and a handmade clasp. I also love stones of all kinds and frequently use them in my work.
The beading process is very meditative and thoughtful. My best work happens when I am completely absorbed in my beadwork for long stretches of uninterrupted time. It is my goal to have that sense of satisfaction and happiness show in my work."
